Zion National Park Favorites

In April of last year, we flew into Las Vegas, Arizona to kick off a two-week long roadtrip. A majority of our trip was spent exploring Utah's Mighty Five National Parks: Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands, and Capitol Reef.

❀ This article will outline our Zion National Park itinerary and some personal recommendations! ❀

Note: Much of this trip was spent outdoors in National Parks. This entails: little to no service, lots of driving, and use of porta-potties. We also stayed at a different place ever night. While this is not everyone's cup of tea, I personally think it's part of the experience and makes things a whole lot more interesting!

Day 1:

  • Flew into Las Vegas, Nevada
  • Grabbed lunch at IN-N-OUT & hit the road!

From there, it was about a 2.5 hour drive to where we were staying in Zion National Park.

That evening, we:

  • Quickly hiked the Zion Canyon Overlook Trail (1.0 mi.).

This is a moderate hike. There are steep areas and places where you need to be careful of your footing. It gives a gorgeous look-out of the canyon and is a must do! We happened to catch it at sunset, which made it even better!

This resort was so stinking cute. We stayed in their canvas-style tents. Although it was colder when we visited, the tents kept pretty warm and there was a heated blanket on the bed! This facility has nice bathrooms with showers and supplies to make s'mores by their campfire! Totally recommend for a good mix of that resort feel while camping!

Day 2:

We had the yummiest breakfast with coffee and even grabbed sandwiches to pack for our long day of hiking ahead!

  • Hiked the Watchman Trail (3.3 mi.)

This is trail is moderately challenging. The views are so gorgeous and give you a different angle of Zion. A shuttle is not required to get to the trailhead, but the parking lot does fill up fast, so beware!

  • Explored Petroglyph Canyon

I was shocked by how many petroglyphs there were in this park. The scenery also seemed to change drastically as we entered a different part of the park. It can be difficult to spot the petroglyphs so keep a close eye out for them!

  • Took scenic drives through the park

That evening, I got my senior pictures taken in the park by The Wild Within Us. She was absolutely fantastic and I adore all the pictures! She showcased the beautiful scenery and picked unique, yet perfect settings to take each photo!

Day 3:

  • Hiked Walter's Wiggles up to Angel's Landing (1.8 mi.)

We backed out of hiking Angel's Landing last second (too scary for us!). But the hike up to it is gorgeous, yet almost just a difficult! The views are very rewarding! Be sure to have a reservation if you plan to try and hike Angel's Landing!

  • Rode the shuttle around the park

Parts of Zion do not allow cars while the shuttles are in operation, so keep this in mind! There is limited parking so it may be difficult to find a spot during peak times of the day!

After three days in Zion, we moved on to our next adventure in Bryce Canyon! Be on the lookout for a separate article about the other four Utah National Parks!

Thank you for being here! ☻
